The 5th installment of UP SIBOL’s Innovations in Health Lecture series aims to introduce 3D printing and design as a tool for health innovation. On May 19, 2022 (Thursday), 9 AM - 10:30 AM, Assoc. Prof Lemuel Clark “Archie” Velasco will provide an overview of FAB LAB Mindanao and its role in stimulating health innovation. FAB LAB Mindanao demonstrated its commitment to creativity, resourcefulness, and innovation through rapid prototyping, small production, and distribution of PPEs that target frontline and essential workers at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘ARCHIE’ LEMUEL CLARK VELASCO is the Director of the first open maker space in Southern Philippines, FAB LAB Mindanao, a collaborative project of the Department of Trade and Industry, the Department of Science and Technology, and the U.S. Department of State through the GIST Program. He converged the disciplines of I.T. with his Masters in Business Management, especially when he was designated to manage FAB LAB Mindanao as part of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology Innovation Ecosystem. His Google Scholar search results include published research papers in refereed journals specializing in innovation systems, and energy analytics, particularly predictive analytics for electric load. He is also a United States Government alumnus and a Professional Fellow of the U.S. Department of State-Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative. His Professional Fellowship in Boston was with the Venture Cafe Foundation of the Cambridge Innovation Center in Kendall-Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the FAB LAB Roxbury Innovation Center, Boston. Aside from being the current Network Quality Chair of FAB LABs Philippines, he is also the convener of FAB Health: Training Workshop on 3D Printing for ORL-HNS, a nationwide program of the Philippine FAB LAB Network in partnership with the Philippine Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the Philippine Academy of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery. Currently, he is an associate professor of the Department of Information Technology of MSU-IIT."
